No one wants to think about getting cancer, but on average 100 000 South Africans are diagnosed with cancer every year. In fact, Sanlam’s claims statistics show that cancer makes up 60% of severe illness claims over the last 6 years. That’s why we designed the Sanlam Cancer Benefit to help you be financially confident should you be diagnosed.
Even with medical aid and gap cover, cancer treatment can be very expensive and place a heavy strain on your finances. The Sanlam Cancer Benefit is there to give you and your family proper financial security against the unexpected costs of a diagnosis, like travel to treatment centres, employing a carer for your children and missed work days.

Cancer doesn’t just take a physical toll, but an emotional one too. CANSA’s Tele Counselling service makes it even easier to get the information and support you need by offering confidential, professional, cancer-specific counselling over the phone to cancer patients, caregivers and families of those affected by the disease.
Financial support is crucial, but cancer screenings are just as important in order to safeguard your future. The earlier the disease is detected, the more effectively it can be treated and the better your chance of recovery.

The Sanlam Severe Illness Cancer Benefit is designed to provide you with cover in the event of cancer diagnosis.
There are certain cancers that have a poor diagnosis even in their early stages, and they tend to require aggressive initial treatments and instant changes in lifestyle. Sanlam will pay 100% for these cancers, some of which include oesophageal, liver, lung, pancreatic, stomach and tongue cancer.
The Cancer Benefit is available as individual benefits, or can be selected in combination with other benefits, including other severe illness benefits.
